    Default eddie acne

So as you know Mike Eddie has severe acne, it definately bleeds when he is stressed out too. So I have an appointment with VEt on weekend, So we wont be there thursday or saturday. I looked at the leerburg muzzle and measure eddie for it and if you think its good let me know and i will order it. only thing is eddies nose circumference is 11.75 inches and the muzzle is 12 inches, so they will have to make one thats 1-3 inches larger then that for him. anyhow I am posting a pic of his acne, and the muzzle as Im sure you have seen it.

    Default Eddie's Acne and Muzzle

You might want to try on one of the shepherd muzzles if you think the dobie muzzle will be too narrow. I never actually used the Leerburg Dobie muzzle yet, but the fortrainers dobie muzzles are ridiculously narrow and kind of defeat the whole purpose of the basket muzzle. jake and troy who usually one or the other comes around on Saturdays has the Leerburg large shepherd muzzle.

    Poor Eddie...

    Default Eddy's acne

    Hi Lou,

Just butting in here - if Eddy eats/drinks out of plastic bowl this might be causing/exacerbating his acne. I know this was the case with my cats (chin acne) so I switched them all to metal bowls and didn't have any further problems.

Also, my Pit Bull Stitch has skin problems - about a year ago he started getting lots of bumps on his body and they would bleed - at first I thought he was somehow scratching himself. The vet did a culture and we found a fungus. However, after treatment for that they haven't fully gone away. The vet was pretty sure it was something in the air not his food. Since then I have had him on 1/4 of a tablet of Temeril P (steroid) with Milk Thistle (counter act the steroid) and he is doing pretty good BUT he still gets flair ups so what I have been using is a Gentocidal (spelling ??) spray and that stuff works great. He also gets little hot spots and again the spray clears them up by the next day.

apparently hes been eating out of a metal bowl - but the acne popped up the same week Lou was using a plastic basket muzzle in training. For those who don't know Eddie - he is a real firecracker and vocal when he is excited, it seems that all the rubbing on the plastic muzzle when he was barking caused the acne (unless coincidence). Curious to hear back from Lou to see how the vet went.

sorry so late with reply been a "ruff" month. Anyhow the vet says to just keep it clean and dry and it should go away on its own.(happy about that because I dont want to fill him up on meds) So I have been using stridex, and witch hazel (thanks Teresa D)
and all has been well. Still there a little bit of acne but not as bad. I just keep him clean after meals and dry his chin after he slobbers up his water. Mike I want to get that leerburg but should I try it before I buy(you said someone has in class), or just get it. Eddie is itching to come back to class and cause a scene. I have been home traing him and he does really well. I ve been puting on movies with dogs for the distraction, like "marley and me" but he goes ballistic about to attack the tv. But the training is good he really does so well with no other dogs around. I have to kick this habit of his.
    I certaintely miss the class,

    Default leerburg muzzle

    Hey Lou,

There are a few people who use the leerburg muzzle that would be able to try. the trick is having them there the same time as Eddie. I know Jake has one, I think a shepherd named Troy has one, and a newer shepherd named Katie that Teresa trained that has been coming to the support class lately has one.

Did the vet think the acne was from the plastic muzzle?

Really throws a curveball into things... It is so hard to find a good comfortable muzzle for dobes that allow their mouth to open nice.

The large german shepherd leerburg muzzle might be a little loose, but i still think is the best one to try. I'd rather have a little loose as long as he canty pull it off - then a little tight.

Mike I ordered the leerburg should be in this week. I measured him the way site recommended. So it should work. Anyhow I would love to come back the saturday after I get the muzzel. To answer your question the vet really did nt know what it could be from. She said it is common in dobes. But I have not used the muzzle since and it has gotten better. Must have been the reason, and also after he eats, which I now clean him afterwards.
    Talk to you soon.
