So ive been reading the link on aggression rehab from the site and came to a conclusion:
For the longest time I believed my dog to have a fear based behavior towards other dogs and people. Its never outright aggression. It is only when other dogs or people walk up to her and solicit attention.
She has no problem soliciting attention from people and LOVES it when she does get it.
My question is:
How do I get her to be accepting to solicitation from other people and other dogs? I understand she doesnt have to be accepting towards all other dog solicitation, or people for that matter, but I need her to atleast be tolerant of it.
I also understand that this could be dominance related (the alpha is the only dog to solicit attention). She allows and welcomes any attention by my wife and I on our terms of course. However when it comes to strangers, other dogs, its a whole different story. Its not pressured attention either. Its a simple scratch behind the ear from a stranger and shell release a growl; a dog sniffs her and shell snarl.
My first conjecture is to disallow any solicitation for attention from her towards other people and desensitize to being around other dogs and people. But I feel that she thinks she is dominant to strangers and strange dogs and therefore believes she has the right to aggressively refuse attention.
Any thoughts?
