The K9-1 Team

K9-1 consists of a growing team of individuals with a quest for high standards, ethics, and expanding knowledge.

Mike D'Abruzzo

Mike D’Abruzzo is the founder of K9-1 Specialized Dog Training LLC and the creator of “Foundation Style Dog Training”.

Since 1993 his experience and education have been completely focused on the goal of improving the world of dog training and the standards of how society, as a whole, deals with the problem of unwanted and difficult dogs.
Mike believes by keeping an open mind, working with like-minded individuals, and holding true to a set of training values based on compassion, respect, and devotion to man’s best friend – the Foundation Style of Dog Training will become the corner stone to the most successful dog trainers in the world.

Teresa

Teresa Delahanty

Teresa started her work with dogs when she was 12 years old by volunteering at South Putnam Animal Hospital in Putnam County, New York. Now, with over 18 years of continuous experience under her belt, Teresa has a Bachelors degree in Veterinary Science from Pace University, is an experienced Licensed Veterinary technician, life time student of continued education, and certified Foundation Style Dog Trainer with over 10 years of educating puppy and dog owners about all aspects of dog training, behavior, husbandry, and health concerns.

Teresa runs a business called simply “the Dog Trainer” where she offers guidance to families who wish to maximize their relationship with their dogs and help them achieve all their training goals. Experienced in everything from personal protection, agility, aggression rehab, alternative, and innovative training methods she has become a valuable part of our mission.

Earl Dunn

Earl Dunn, is a certified trainer and behaviorist, Rutgers University graduate, responsible and trustworthy business owner of Custom Canine Dog Training, and an avid animal lover. Some of Earl’s memberships and accomplishments include: AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, member of IACP (International Association of Canine Professionals), member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau), and Certified Foundation Dog Trainer. Earl has vast experience ranging from working with client’s dogs, shelter dogs, personal protection dogs, special cases and much more.

Earl has been a key educator as an “Ace” of the foundation style of dog training. His strong sense of ethics, dedication, and pride in everything he does has made him a powerful force and advocate in the spread of professionalism in the dog training world.

Nathaniel Bonilla

Nate has been working as a professional trainer for over 10 years. He is a certified trainer, graduate of the Tom Rose school of dog training, and very experienced hands on trainer of difficult dogs, aggression rehab cases, and working dogs. Nathaniel’s resume includes being the head trainer for K9-1 Specialized Dog Training LLC of New York, Dogs Unlimited of Connecticut, as well as running his own training programs under his company Pawsitive Dog Training.

Nathaniel has literally trained hundreds of dogs from start to finish for various tasks. He is a master trainer for obedience, competitive exercises, personal protection, and other creative specialized training. Nathaniel’s vast experience and natural dog savvy makes him a valued asset to our team.

Dawson

Dawson was picked up as a stray by animal control and placed with the local SPCA. Due to his tendencies for overly assertive and aggressive “grabbing” of volunteers’ and potential adopters’ clothing he was labeled “unadoptable” after a failed adoption attempt. K9-1 was informed of Dawson’s situation and the rest is history:

Dawson’s strengths were evaluated and he has been trained specifically as a dog aggression rehabilitation specialist. So good he is at his specialty that he has become a permanent part of the team. A favorite amongst clients and volunteers – virtually every dog aggression case that passes through K9-1’s doors has been helped get over the hump and achieve their best results through the expertise of this special dog.

Elu

As a rule in dog training, the more primitive and distant a dog is to domestication it will be more difficult to train. There is no room for shortcuts, lack of respect, or sloppy training with primitive dogs.

We constantly say at K9-1, “If it doesn’t work on Elu, it shouldn’t be part of the standard.”

Opening our eyes to the insight provided by the dogs in our team and classes help us all to succeed.

Elu and Dawson
