| | Added on 16/07/2010 | Over the years whenever I would hear someone say they were using a dog trainer, I always wondered why. I would say, "Why can't you train your own dog?" I never really thought that dog trainers did anything different that we can do ourselves and from my experience this seemed to be the case, whether it was the dog trainer that my cousin used and didn't work, or my friends going to like Pet Smart or something and attempting to use their trainers, which did absolutely nothing. I always thought it was a big scam and you are just paying someone to do something that you can do yourself. This was until I got my first dog "Flower" from the pound. She was a Lab/Pitbull mix that was a little over a year when I got her. She was a great dog with me, but she was very vicious to other people and animals and would run away every chance she got. She once attacked the neighbor's dog and if you came over, she wouldn't even let you shake my hand. I tried to work with her, but she was just causing to many issues and becoming a potential major liability in my parent's eyes, so they made me regrettably give her back to the pound. After her, is when I got Butkis, a tan and white Pitbull, that I fell in love with right away. After my experience with Flower however, I wanted to avoid all the issues she had, but did not know how, so I really just kept him secluded from the world. This was ok when I still lived at home with my parents, where Butkis could live outside in their backyard and not be around anyone to cause any harm. The problem came when I wanted to move out into an apartment with my fiance who owned two cats. At this point Butkis was 8 years old already and never lived inside or played with another animal and very rarely played with other people. While he was friendly, he was a very powerful and assertive dog which most people were scared to even pet him. I was worried, because I knew I was in a dilemma at this point because I wanted to move in with my fiance, but I did not want to get rid of my little buddy. This is when I met Mike, who I was unsure of at first because my past experience with other dog trainers was not very good, but my fiance convinced me to try him out. Mike was very busy at this time and I needed help immediately, so he put me in contact with one of his certified foundation style trainers who helped trained Butkis better than I could ever imagine. Their technique to dog training is so amazing; it is something that you couldn't even imagine until you see it with your own eyes. Butkis is now a healthy and happy dog that lives inside with us and plays with other people and animals. At 10 and half years old, he is probably thriving better now than he ever has. When my family came over to visit for the first time since I moved, they couldn't believe their eyes, they thought it was a different dog. I just wish I knew Mike before I had to get rid of Flower years ago.
Since then, my fiance and I got another baby Pitbull rescue, who I wanted make sure up front that there would be no issues. So in talking to Mike, he had me join his puppy classes and from there I went right into training with Mike and his team so that now Prelude is probably the friendliest, most well behaved Pitbull you will ever meet and I only have Mike to thank for that. The best thing about Mike's training is not only his many years of experience and extreme dedication, but he doesn't only train the dog, he trains you to work with the dog. This way you are able to handle the dog in different situations. What good is it just to train the dog, if the owner doesn't know how to handle him/her?
If you care about your dog, you have to give him/her a chance with the training style, where no dog is too tough to train.
Thank You K9-1 Team!!!

| | Added on 30/11/2011 | When we first came to see Mike, we were worried that our recently acquired shelter dog had aggression issues that were untrainable. But Mike's professional and caring training method transformed Dodger into a responsive, lovable member of our family. His common sense approach to instructing people and his magical results with dogs make Mike the kind of trainer every dog owner should seek out. We are so happy with what Mike has accomplished with Dodger and cannot thank him enough.
